In a novel that to some degree mirrors the author’s real life, The New Yorker says Taylor uses “the precision of science and the intimacy of memoir” while digging deep into the “relentless abrasion of dignity” familiar to people of color at Midwestern university campuses, including in research labs. Author Taylor holds a master’s in biochemistry from UW-Madison as well as a graduate degree from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop.
